Final Documentary!!!!


We were asked to choose a theme and interview local designers about media or design nowadays and stuffs as a documentary. So my team, Jowin, Chi Yan, Victoria, Darlene and me(Andrew) decided to interview the founder of Lansi, a local brand in Malaysia. Here is our video after interview and editing.

LANSI - THE SWAGGER SALON

The Swagger Salon is an awesome online swag shop. It is a creative local brand and the people of this brand is also the people behind the cap of ill repute/well known, LANSI and TAIKOR. There are products of LANSI caps, snapbacks, T-shirts, jackets, and bunch of awesome stuffs. 

















This brand basically using physical appearance and attractive female body figure as the main tactics to gain attractions and sell their products. Mostly teenagers will be attracted to this brand because of  their lifestyle and fashion. They even received an award of Best Local Streetwear of 2011 for Juice Magazine which shows how effective is their marketing skills.

Mask Project Final

We were assigned a group mask project. The whole class were divided into 2 groups. and here is our final outcome of MASK~


An experimental video which redefine the term, Mask contextually which is more towards 
abstract and in an expressive and impressional way.The way how we conform ourselves into the social, the way we have to hide our true selves and 'FAKE ourselves' But not all of us will hide our true selves to blend into the social,there's always an odd one who tries to be themselves to blend into social. It is very scary that the everyone's inner has an evil and deception in it. BLACK SHIRT IS THOSE WHO WORE MASK AND CONFORM WITH THE SOCIAL WHILE THE WHITE SHIRT IS THE ODD ONE. TRY TO THINK. Mask is not only a piece of plastic, wood or and so ever that can be wore on face. Well,it can be behavior or anything. So enjoy this piece of artwork cum video.

Mask Project Research

Mask, an object that existed about 9000 years ago as a usage to wear on face typically for protection, disguise, performance or entertainment. The use of masks in ritual or ceremonies is a very ancient human practice across the world. Some masks also were designed for decorative and some were used in drama therapy or psychotherapy.


Masks nowadays mostly were used as a disguise or entertainment but what is the main purpose of mask? Mask were mainly used to hide our feelings, expressions and motives. Mask is not necessary an object, everyone is wearing mask everyday. When we go to work or school, mostly people will look sad as they had wore a sad face mask because they feel bored, lazy or tiring. Then they will look happy when the work or school time ends and the face look totally different just like changed to another mask already.

My Design of Icon

A combination of the strongest impacts game to the world using Mario's cap, Link's shield and swords and Donkey Kong's barrel. 
This is an icon for myself and people who are in love and have passions in video games.

Icon : Gamers



video games, which is an electronic games require people to interact with the user interface to generate feedback from a video device for example computer or television. Well, generally it is an entertainment that you can enjoy individually or with group. Every video game has an icon to represent the main character or the main point of the game. Therefore the type of video game i choose is the most classic video games that created by NINTENDO. 
 
Here is the Link from The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong (DK) and the most famous one, MARIO.
The reason they call this the classic video games because these were known as the old school games which is created since 1981 and it evolves from time by time until now still improving yet they didn't change the story line. This is the prove of evolution of these games.
Here I would like to introduce you the creator of this game, Shigeru Miyamoto. 

He is also the game director and game producer of video game production company, Nintendo. Shigeru Miyamoto was born in Japan Kyoto a town called Sonobe in 1952 November 16. His work was greatly influenced by his childhood as he always went to explore the forest around his home. One day, he saw a cave somewhere in the forest. he was hesitated for few days then he went inside to explore it. This expeditions inspired his later work which is the creation of The Legend Of Zelda. Miyamoto graduated from the Kanazawa Municipal College of Industrial Arts. At first he thought of becoming a professional manga artist before considering a carreer as video games producer but manga also influenced in his work as he produced a game titled space invader which is an arcade hit during 1978.
After the Nintendo company began to brunch out, Miyamoto helped to create the first original coin-operated arcade video games, Sheriff. In 1981, he created a game name Donkey Kong that inspired from the movie King Kong and Beauty and the Beast and also mirror the character from 'Popeye The Sailor Man'. He changed Popeye, Bluto, Olive Oyl into Jumpman(Mario nowadays), Donkey Kong and Princess. After the success of Donkey Kong, he continue work on sequels Donkey Kong Jr and Donkey Kong 3. His next success was the reworked on the character Jumpman into Mario and gave him a brother called Luigi and named the game Mario Bros. Miyamoto soon created Super Mario Bros then proceed to make The Legend Of Zelda. He took a new direction that required players to think and solve puzzles while walking around a miniature garden. He drew this inspired by his childhood experience when he was exploring the forest. Miyamoto said he managed to make it realistic was because he experiences it by himself, traveled without map, trying to find his way home and full off surprises.Other than this, he also made tons of games classic games like 
  • Koopa Trovas
  • F-Zero
  • Star Fox
 All his games are adventurous and exciting.  
Shigure Miyamoto has given an extreme great impact to the world as within 30 years not only he driven the evolution of the game industry and influenced people's life and majority gamer's interest. He is the icon of Game Developer and the icon of gamer. Nowadays game developers will use his gaming figure as an icon and gamer usually buy his gaming figure as collections and accessories.

By the way, the creator of Pokemon Satoshi Taijiri was mentored by Shigure Miyamoto while working in Nintendo company. 

He gave a large impact to teenager's hobby and interest nowadays. Without his existence, the world will be totally different from nowadays.

Introduction to Icons (3)

Mask can be an icon too. In the past, mask represents the evil spirits that been used to balance the traditional relationship of inherited positions within a culture. Mostly mask was used my some secret societies especially the African and American Indians. Other than religion, mask can be used as an education tool which Africans use it to scare and discipline their kids. People also use mask to hide their identity and allow them to mix in among the animals for easier hunting. Besides, people used mask to hide their feelings and change personalities for example become more cruel or more brave after wearing a mask.



 
Other than mask, we can use other things as icon to represents ourselves too and I'm creating my own icon.
